Now in its 18th year, Record Store Day will see over 300 independent record stores across the UK offering special releases exclusively available on the day.
For these live editions, Kokoroko, The Snuts, and Nilüfer Yanya each recorded a live session at Metropolis Studios in a single take to be pressed directly to vinyl without edits or retakes. Kokoroko will be presenting a four-track EP, featuring "Higher" from their 2024 EP Get The Message, in addition to picks from their second album, Tuff Times Never Last, released last July, and an exclusive cover of "Express Your Love" by Sweet and Innocent.
Speaking about the experience of recording live to vinyl, the group say: “Cutting live-to-vinyl is kind of like stamping time, you’re capturing this moment that’s not going to happen the same way again. We love vinyl, so it just felt right; doing it in the spirit of some of our favourite records. We’d never played some of these songs like this before, it felt like the perfect way to capture them. We also covered Sweet and Innocent’s ‘Express Your Love’ (such a gorgeous track) and it’s the first time recording Noushy on lead vocals with us. She sounds amazing, and we really wanted to give her that shine.”
Last October, The Snuts performed an intimate, stripped-back show at Boiler Shop in Newcastle for Record Store Day 2026, which was captured live to be mixed, mastered, and cut to vinyl at Metropolis Studios. As Metropolis Studios mix engineer Joe Brice explains: “We transported our very fragile 24-track tape machine on location and set our recording rig upside-of-stage capturing the energy of the live performance direct to tape. Back at Metropolis, the 24-track tapes were mixed down to half inch two-track tape, mastered and cut to lacquer by Matt Colton keeping this unique performance 100% analogue from the stage, all the way to the vinyl on your record player.”
Nilüfer Yanya's performance sees her rework tracks from her 2024 album My Method Actor, including: “Method Actor,” “Call It Love,” “Binding,” and “The Dealer". Speaking on the experience and her selections, Yanya explains: “My band & I cherry picked 4 songs from the live show that we have been touring since the release of My Method Actor that take on a life of their own on stage. Having the opportunity to record these at Metropolis archives the live show at a moment in time and hopefully makes for an enjoyable listening experience."
