Iconic, a supergroup made up of a who’s who of hard rock musicians from the ’80s and ’90s, have announced their new album II, arriving July 31st via Frontiers Music.
The band’s bona fides are wide and varied. The members have played in Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy, Stryper, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Ozzy Osbourne‘s solo band.
Singer Nathan James fronts an all-star outfit comprised of Michael Sweet, Joel Hoekstra, Tommy Aldridge, and Mike Mendoza. The new album follows the group’s 2022 debut, Second Skin.
In advance of the new LP, the band has released a lyric video for lead single and opening track “Cry No More,” a song that marries real rock heft with heavy metal structure.
Of particular note is 75-year-old Aldridge’s drumming, which reads as perpetually youthful, dating back to his Ozzy days (see him breaking down his iconic drum work on Ozzy’s “Bark at the Moon” with Drumeo here).
Guitarist Hoekstra said of the song, “It’s a pleasure to work with these fantastic musicians in Iconic. ‘Cry No More’ should give classic rock fans something raw and real in terms of both playing and production. Crank it up!”
Bassist Mendoza added, “Like always, it’s a blast and quite an honor to be part of a project like this, with all these players! Take a listen and enjoy! Viva la ROCK!!!”
