Sabrina Carpenter has returned with her highly-anticipated seventh full-length effort, Man’s Best Friend. Stream the album below, along with the video for her new single, “Tears,” starring Coleman Domingo.
Following the blockbuster success of Short n’ Sweet in 2024, the new LP looks to solidify Carpenter’s position as one of the leading women of pop. The 12-track follow-up was written by Carpenter with frequent collaborators Amy Allen, Jack Antonoff, and John Ryan.

“It is not for the pearl clutchers, the album is not for any pearl clutchers,” Carpenter told CBS Mornings of her latest release and its content matter. “I think that’s the thing, is sometimes people hear the lyrics that are really bold or they go, ‘I don’t want to sing this in front of other people.’ It’s like it’s almost too it, it, it’s TMI. But I think about being at a concert with, you know, however many young women I see in the front row that are screaming at the top of their lungs with their best friends. And you can go like, ‘Oh, we can all, like, sigh of relief like, ‘This is just fun.’ And, and that’s all it has to be.”
It’s been a whirlwind of a year for the singer, who has spent much of that time on tour in support of her breakthrough sixth album, Short n’ Sweet (2024). Packed with hit singles including “Espresso” (which was Trent Reznor’s favorite song last year), “Please Please Please,” and “Bed Chem,” the album spent the second-most time at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2024, only behind Taylor Swift‘s The Tortured Poets Department.
The Short n’ Sweet album returned earlier this year in the form of a deluxe edition, loaded with five additional songs, including a remix of “Please Please Please” featuring music icon Dolly Parton. Before she signed off on the remix, however, Parton delivered a set of rules to Carpenter about the collaboration: “I don’t cuss, I don’t make fun of Jesus. I don’t talk bad about God, and I don’t say dirty words on camera.”
The “Short n’ Sweet” tour was such a success that Carpenter added another run of shows, which kicks off in late October after she headlines both weekends of this year’s Austin City Limits festival. She’s even considered banning phones at her shows, although she admits such a move “will honestly piss off my fans.” See her tour dates below, and get tickets here.
Just last month at a show in London, the singer welcomed pop icons Simon Le Bon and John Taylor of Duran Duran to the stage for a rendition of the band’s ’80s hit, “Hungry Like the Wolf.”
Man’s Best Friend generated a sea of controversy long before it was released, back when Carpenter first revealed the highly suggestive cover art. While the risque imagery was defended by none less than singer Carly Simon (“She’s not doing anything outrageous”), the pop star struck back with an alternate album cover, which she deemed “Approved by God.”
The album’s lead single (and music video), “Manchild,” was strong enough to be deemed our “Song of the Week” when it arrived.
Next month, Carpenter is slated to perform at the 2025 MTV VMAs.
