Soulwax are throwing a rave this month in London. Specifically at Abbey Road Studios, yes the one where The Beatles recorded. It’s the studio’s first-ever rave and it happens February 21 from 8 PM – 1 AM (kinda early for a rave, no?). To be one of the 300 lucky people in attendance you can call Soulwax’s ‘rave hotline’ at +447886 072699.
The night will include the debut of a Soulwax session that their band will record the day before at Abbey Road’s Studio Two, as well as a set from Stephen and David Dewaele’s alter egos, 2ManyDJs. That will also be the debut of their new DEEWEE Sound System, which is based on the speaker array at NYC’s legendary Paradise Garage. There will also be other special guests TBA.
The Dewaeles say: “If you only go to one rave in the place where they record Star Wars soundtracks, while dancing to 2manydjs & friends on DEEWEE’s mad new soundsystem, spinning Soulwax music recorded just the day before in Studio Two and immediately cut to vinyl in-house…make it this one.”
“It’s hard to say whether we have a perverse or healthy attraction to crazy ideas – that’s for others to decide,” the Dewaeles add. “But being approached with a crazy idea by the most iconic recording studio in music history makes it impossible to refuse. We embrace the challenge and sincerely hope this won’t be the last rave at Abbey Road.”
“I’ve talked about hosting a rave here for years, so it’s a genuine thrill to have Soulwax curate the first night,” says Abbey Road’s Mark Robertson. “Studio One has been home to countless era-defining firsts – from Elgar to John Williams – and opening it to bold new forms of creativity feels both true to our heritage and excitingly audacious.”
Soulwax released All Systems Are Lying last year. Listen to our conversation with Stephen and David on the BV Interviews podcast here.
