STEVEN WILSON Launches Headphone Dust Platform For High-Res & Immersive Audio

2 hours ago 1

Progressive rock maestro Steven Wilson has unveiled Headphone Dust, a dedicated online platform offering high-resolution downloads, 5.1 surround mixes, and Dolby Atmos/spatial audio of his solo work. The service provides a permanent home for Wilson's releases, overcoming limitations of Blu-ray discs and physical media, which often go out of print.

"To begin with, I'm concentrating on my solo catalogue, but in time I hope to also be able to include other work with my own bands, collaborations, and the many artists I've mixed for," Wilson said in a recent announcement.

To celebrate the launch, an exclusive live album, Impossible Tightrope: Live in Madrid, is now available. The recording captures the final concert of the European leg of The Overview Tour, performed in front of an enthusiastic Madrid audience. Clocking in at over two hours, the show has been mixed in stereo, 5.1, and Dolby Atmos, and will remain digital-only with no plans for a physical release.

Wilson has also revisited two of his most acclaimed solo albums for immersive audio:

  • The Raven That Refused to Sing (2013) – now available in Dolby Atmos for the first time
  • Hand.Cannot.Erase (2015) – Atmos version coming soon

"While I love the Blu-ray format, not everyone has the capacity to play these discs," Wilson explained. "Headphone Dust will make pristine, immersive audio more accessible, providing a permanent home for my work in high resolution."

Fans can now explore Wilson's catalog in unprecedented clarity and spatial detail via Headphone Dust, with more albums and future collaborations expected to follow. Check it out here.
