Former Police bandmates Sting and Andy Summers have reunited on Christian McBride’s new song, “Murder by Numbers.” It’s the lead single from the Grammy-winning jazz musician’s upcoming big band album, Without Further Ado, Vol. 1, out August 29th on Mack Avenue Records.
“Murder by Numbers” marks the first time Sting and Summers have collaborated since The Police’s 2007-2008 reunion tour. The new track features Sting taking the lead on vocals and Summers jamming out on guitar as they are joined by the Christian McBride Big Band. Stream it below.
“I am absolutely thrilled to have Sting and Andy Summers — two-thirds of one of the most influential bands in history, The Police — join me for one of their songs,” said McBride in a press statement. “Sting continues to evolve gracefully as an artist, and Andy still plays with the sophisticated fire and grit he has always possessed. A huge thank you to both of them, as well as to the remarkable Pedrito Martinez, for bringing that special ‘thang’ that only he can provide.”
Other featured artists on Without Further Ado, Vol. 1 include Samara Joy, Jeffrey Osborne, José James, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Dianne Reeves, and Antoinette Henry. See the artwork and tracklist below.
The Christian McBride Big Band will preview new material from the album during their August 3rd performance at the Newport Jazz Festival.
Meanwhile, Sting is currently on a European leg of his “Sting 3.0” tour and will return to the US in November for a string of headlining dates. Get tickets here.
