Sunn O))) have announced a new self-titled album arriving April 3rd via Sub Pop, the drone-metal act’s full-length debut for the label. The duo of Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson also released the album closer “Glory Black,” and unveiled details of a Spring 2026 North American tour.
The itinerary will run from March 30th through April 25th, spanning 23 headlining dates. So far, 12 cities have been confirmed, including Phoenix; Austin, Texas; Houston; New Orleans; Atlanta; Columbus, Ohio; Philadelphia; Montreal; Toronto; Chicago; Iowa City, Iowa; and Omaha, Nebraska.

The surging decibels of “Glory Black” — one of the band’s most discernibly riffy songs to date — serve as a proper primer for both the tour and forthcoming album, which was produced by Brad Wood at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington. The front and back cover are notably adorned by paintings by the late American artist Mark Rothko, while illustrations by French artist Elodie Lesourd are featured on the inner LP sleeves and accompanying album merch.
In recent interview with the New York Times, Wood revealed some of the recording techniques used to capture Sunn’s massive amplifier swells on the new record.
“We opened up these giant doors and the doors to the kitchen leading out into the outside on the left and right side of the studio and just blasted their music out,” Wood said, “and then set up microphones a couple hundred yards away from each other — like the world’s largest stereo array of room mics.”
The results, he added, “sounded like a thunderstorm rumbling off in the distance.”
