Swick's recent credits include work with M.I.A. and Diplo, the latter of which formed the basis for Jennifer Lopez’s platinum single "Booty". DJ and producer King Doudou (Hugo Douster), meanwhile, draws from Latino dembow, Ivorian coupé-décalé, Jersey club and baile funk; he has collaborated with Bad Gyal and J Balvin, winning a Latin Grammy for his work with the latter in 2020.
Digi Mangal dates back to 2018, when the pair found themselves together in London. The EP was sketched out between FIFA sessions, a diet of Mangal take-out food, and a shared love for global club music. According to King Doudou, the new single’s aggressive, sample-heavy sound is no accident.
“Why use a synth when you have a 125cc engine?” he says. “We’re bringing the sound of the late-night delivery grind straight to the club. Rev the engine and turn it into a dancefloor weapon.”
The EP follows the duo’s 2022 collaboration ‘Calor’ with reggaeton artist Ms Nina, which also appears on the tracklist alongside the new single, two further original tracks, and a bonus track.
