The Antlers have announced a new album, Blight, due October 10 via Transgressive Records (pre-order). It’s their first album since 2021’s Green to Gold, and it also follows a few one-off singles from 2023 and the collaborative live album with Okkervil River that came out earlier this year.
Like Green to Gold, the album was made by the duo of Peter Silberman and Michael Lerner, with Silverman handling vocals, piano, guitar, bass, synths, and production, and Lerner handling drums. The first single is the delicate, slow-moving “Carnage,” which Silverman says is “a song about a kind of violence we rarely acknowledge — violence not born of cruelty, but of convenience. Innocent creatures are swept up in the path of destruction as their world collides with ours, and we barely notice.” Check it out below.
About the singles that The Antlers released in between the last album and this new one, Silberman reflects, “These singles were metaphysical songs about connection with nature, which in turn put me in touch with all the ways that nature is under threat. The smell of wildfire smoke on a sunny afternoon, the sound of chainsaws on a hike through the woods — these contradictions became impossible to ignore.”
The Antlers will play an NYC release show for Blight on October 22 at Le Poisson Rouge. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, July 20 at 10 AM ET, and this is their only upcoming show at the moment.
