The Beths have announced their signing to ANTI- and released “Metal,” their first new song since 2023. Alongside their first new music on the label, the New Zealand band has announced a 2025 world tour. Listen to “Metal” below.
“For parts of the last few years, I kind of felt like my body was a vehicle that had carried me pretty well thus far but was breaking down, something I had little to no control over,” frontwoman Elizabeth Stokes said in a press statement. “Despite all the ways that my body feels like a broken machine, I still marvel at the complexity of such a machine.”
Speaking about the jangly sound of “Metal,” Stokes continued, “There was a propulsion to the acoustic strumming pattern on the original demo. Tristan’s drums meet that feeling so perfectly, the feeling of a train pushing up the tracks. Jonathan got to play his Burns 12 string guitar as sparkly as he wanted, and Ben as usual can’t be contained to the lower register. I think we ended up with an arrangement that embodies the frenetic intricacy of an engine in action. There’s a lot going on, until there isn’t.”
Along with the new single, The Beths are heading out on a world tour this fall, hitting cities in Europe, the UK, and North America. The first show is in Dublin on September 18th, and from there, they’ll play shows in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Oslo, Berlin, Madrid, and more before heading to North America at the end of October. The Beths will perform to fans in Atlanta, Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, and more before closing out the tour on December 9th in Washington, DC. The band will be supported by opening acts Phoebe Rings, Bret McKenzie, Squirrel Flower, and illuminati hotties.
Tickets for The Beths’ world tour go on sale this Friday, May 2nd at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster. There will be several pre-sales, including a Live Nation pre-sale for select dates (use code DANCE) on Wednesday, April 30th at 12:00 p.m. ET or Thursday, May 1st at 10:00 am local time, depending on the venue.
The Beths’ last album was 2022’s Expert in a Dying Field, which was later expanded to a deluxe edition in 2023. After listening to “Metal,” revisit Consequence’s 2022 My15 interview with the Kiwi indie rockers, where they discussed songs they’ve had on repeat since ’07.
