The Beatles tribute band Bootleg Beatles is auditioning for a new Paul McCartney.

The act was established in 1980 and has gone on to play huge, notable shows in the UK and further afield.

They were among the artists on the bill at the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002, and supported Oasis at their iconic Knebworth and Earls Court shows. They’ve also played Glastonbury multiple times, and are due to perform on the Acoustic Stage on Sunday June 29 at 8pm.

Up until now, the lineup has consisted of Steve White as Paul McCartney, Stephen Hill as George Harrison, Gordon Elsmore as Ringo Starr and Paul Canning as John Lennon, who stepped up in 2018.

Now, they’ve announced that they’re searching for a new McCartney, as White is stepping down after over 10 years.

In a statement shared to Instagram last week, the band wrote: “We’re very sad to announce that Steve White, our fab Macca for over 10 years, is retiring from full-time touring with BB’s this Autumn.”

They continued: “He has been an outstanding contributor to this wonderful BB ‘institution’ and we all wish him well with his future musical projects.”

The tribute band went on to say that “the search is on” for a new bassist, who has the “look, the voice, bass guitar and keyboard skills” of McCartney. Those interested can apply to auditions@bottlegbeatles.com. Read the full post below.

As for the real McCartney, Beyoncé recently thanked him for “writing one of the best songs ever made,” in ‘Blackbird’, which she covered on ‘Cowboy Carter’.

He also recently joined Bruce Springsteen on stage in Liverpool to play a version of The Beatles’ ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’, and made a moving tribute to late Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson.

Meanwhile, three sons of The Beatles members have worked together on a new track as Sean Ono Lennon and James McCartney have collaborated with Zak Starkey’s band Mantra Of The Cosmos.
