The Eagles’ mega-selling compilation Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 has become the first album to ever be certified quadruple diamond for sales of 40 million copies in the United States.

The best-of collection remains the biggest-selling album in the States, and interestingly was the first album to be certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The RIAA also newly certified the Eagles’ 1976 album Hotel California as 28-times platinum.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975, a crystal-clear 180-gram vinyl edition of the album will be released exclusively via Eagles.com on February 17th, with pre-orders available now.

While the Eagles’ greatest-hits LP holds the title of the biggest-selling album in the States, estimates place it at fifth place worldwide, with Michael Jackson’s Thriller at No. 1, followed by AC/DC’s Back in Black, the Whitney Houston-led soundtrack to The Bodyguard, and Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon.

The new certifications come right as the Eagles kick off the final run of dates as part of their ongoing residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere. The band will be back in the futuristic venue beginning this Friday, January 23rd, followed by another 11 shows scheduled through March 28th (pick up tickets here).

Fans who are in Sin City to catch the Eagles at the Sphere can walk over to the band’s immersive fan experience at The Venetian Resort, where a quadruple-diamond plaque will be on display (pictured below).
