The singer looks like Walter White. That's my big takeaway from the Joel Wilson-directed video for Australian band the Jungle Giants' new single "A Moment Like That." To be clear: Lead Jungle Giant Sam Hales doesn't need to look like Bryan Cranston's Breaking Bad antihero. He doesn't have that craggy face or that cold stare. He just made certain hair, beard, and wardrobe decisions that immediately made me think he should be cooking blue meth on my TV. Is this intentional? Or is this just how men look in Australia?
Down in Australia, the Walter White thing presumably isn't the main reason that people will pay attention to "A Moment Like That." In their homeland, Brisbane indie-dance dudes the Jungle Giants are a huge deal. They've been around for well over a decade, and their last album, 2021's Love Signs, was a #1 hit. Next month, the band will follow that one with a new LP called Experiencing Feelings Of Joy. Hales wrote the songs on the album after getting through a bad breakup, a bout with depression, and a bunch of murder attempts from Mexican cartel hitmen. (That last one is not true.) But their new song "A Moment Like That" sounds sparkly, not sad. The video is below.
Experiencing Feelings Of Joy is out 5/8 on Amplifire.
