Pennsylvania metal merchants The Last Ten Seconds of Life have announced their eighth full-length album, The Dead Ones, set for release on April 17. The record marks a major milestone for the band as their debut release on Metal Blade Records, arriving as what may be their most intense and introspective effort to date.
Described as both pulverizing and deeply personal, The Dead Ones channels the band's signature deathcore brutality through a sharper, more deliberate sonic lens. Produced by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland at Pennsylvania's Atrium Audio, the album places a heavy emphasis on sheer physical impact.
"We really focused on the guitar, bass, and drum tones as well as the mix and master," says guitarist Wyatt McLaughlin, who describes the final result as "a super-thick sonic output and ‘rolling-tank'-like feel."
Across its ten original tracks, The Dead Ones features an impressive slate of guest vocalists from across the modern extreme metal landscape. David Simonich of Signs Of The Swarm appears on "Make It To Heaven," while former Fit For An Autopsy vocalist Nate Johnson lends his voice to "Rat Trap." Elsewhere, Alan Grnja of Distant features on "Dollar To A Dime," and longtime fans will recognize a familiar voice when original The Last Ten Seconds of Life vocalist Storm Strope appears on the ominously titled "XXXXXXXXXX."
In crafting the album, the band took a long, hard look at their own legacy. "Everyone took what we learned from the past two releases and assembled what we thought would bring out the best of us," McLaughlin explains.
"We examined all of The Last Ten Seconds of Life's past work and focused on how our fanbase digested and connected with our music — from the flow of structure all the way to every single word that was used."
Lyrically, The Dead Ones continues the thematic arc introduced on 2024's No Name Graves, exploring death and rebirth — but with a sharper focus on lived experience. Rather than abstract concepts, the album zeroes in on human struggle, loss, and emotional erosion.
The title track and lead single, "The Dead Ones," confronts the idea that modern life can strip people of their innate humanity. "We all know that feeling—the piercing desire to have one more conversation or final words with a loved one who has passed," McLaughlin says. "The Dead Ones explores this through a sonic séance, where the realization hits that in becoming a vessel for the dead, darkness and light both demand their due."
