The New Pornographers have been preparing to release a new album, and now they’ve officially announced The Former Site Of. It’s their tenth LP, due out on March 27 via Merge, and features frequent contributor Neko Case and drummer Charley Drayton (but not Dan Bejar this time). “Having time in my studio really opened things up,” frontman A.C. Newman says. “I don’t like wasting my bandmates’ time, and always felt guilty when I’d give them a song, ask them to do something, then completely change the song and ask them to do it again. Now I can get the skeleton of a song together first—just a couple of elements, the key feeling, really as little as possible—before bringing it to the band and running from there.” See the cover art and tracklist below.

They’ve shared a new single, “Votive,” which has Newman and Kathryn Calder harmonizing over mandolin and synths. Watch the video, animated by Michael Arthur, below.

The New Pornographers’ spring tour with Will Sheff of Okkervil River begins in April, and includes an NYC show at Webster Hall on April 23. Josh Wells (Destroyer, Black Mountain) will drum with the band on this outing, and you can see all dates below.
