‘The Odyssey’ crew damaged replica Viking ship and hasn’t paid for repair, owner claims

The owners of a Viking boat that was used for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey claims that damage to the ship during filming has yet to be paid for. The warship Glad av Gillberga, owned by Swedish non-profit Vikingaleden, was featured in the epic which enjoyed the largest opening weekend of the year for a live-action film. However, when it came time to repair damage incurred during filming, they claim that studio Universal did not reply to an invoice for $6,000 (£4,500) for materials used in its repair. Peter Olausson, chair of the Vikingaleden association, said to The Guardian: “We are only charging for the material cost, not the labour. Of course Universal can afford this $6,000. We feel forgotten.” While the ship is back on the water, Olausson claimed the Hollywood studio had not kept to their end of the bargain. “The agreement was that we would fix it and get financially reimbursed,” he explained. In response, a Universal spokesperson said: “Our records show that all invoices relating to the Glad av Gillberga were paid in full, including repairs.
