This week's new heavy metal releases include crushing energetic metal, a splitting headache (You'll groan at that soon. You're welcome), and more! To the metals…
Hanabie. – Hot Topic

Genre: Nu metal/metalcore
Origin: Kichijōji, Tokyo, Japan
Label: Sony
Buy now from Hanabie.
One of the better band sin their scene is hitting you with some catchy metal here. You're getting big ol' grooves, lots of aggression, and a lot of fun. There are a lot of little nostalgic moments thrown in this weirdly. There was a Gameboy start up sound that hit my brain just right in the song "Iconic."
The Hirsch Effekt – Der Brauch

Genre: Progressive metal
Origin: Hanover, Germany
Label: Long Branch Records
Buy now on Bandcamp
The Hirsch Effekt have a lot albums with covers featuring weird shit happening to heads. Der Brauch is another one of those. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, this is a showcase of the weird shit happening in their heads. This is a proggy showcase that'll require you to brush up on your Deutsch if you want you follow along.
Møl – Dreamcrush

Genre: Post-black metal/shoegaze
Origin: Aarhus, Midtjylland –
Label: Nuclear Blast
Buy now on Bandcamp
Back before the comments got too full of bots and jerks, readers were quick to let me know that I slept on the last Møl record, and holy shit were you right. Dreamcrush is another win in their catalog and ensures that I will never forget them again. Big recommendation for fans of the epic, blackened, and ethereal.
Planet Hunter – Soothsayer

Genre: Stoner/psychedelic rock
Orign: Wellington, New Zealand
Label: Sharkhound
Buy and/or sample on Bandcamp
Riffs and fun. That's what you're getting on Soothsayer. They're catchy like Torche during their Harmonicraft period and have the swagger of golden era of Clutch. This is an unexpected gem.
Therion – Con Orquesta

Genre: Symphonic metal
Origin: Upplands Väsby, Sweden
Label: Napalm
Buy now from Napalm
Back in 2024 Therion played a show in Mexico City with a full orchestra. The already grand sounding band was made more massive with all their orchestral friends. The set offers a pretty balanced selection of cuts from a lot of albums, so fans should have oodles to be happy about here. Those wanting more have get a BlueRay and/or DVD to watch all the performances and catch some hersal footage as well.
Urne – Setting Fire To The Sky

Genre: Sludge/metalcore
Origin: London, England
Label: Spinefarm
Buy now from Spinefarm
Closing out this week with the heavy hammer of Urne. Their third album is a crushing mix of sludge and energy, which is always a gnarly combo. The now four-piece welcomes new guitarist Kurtis Bagley who adds some lovely textures, harmonies, and more here.
