We had been looking forward to Charles Bissell of The Wrens releasing his debut album as Car Colors in 2024, but it looks like that won’t be happening. Bissell responded to a fan on Bluesky asking “what’s the latest on the Car Colors project,” writing, “Ehh…I don’t know. The short answer, if I’m honest, is that with everything the last few years, I just no longer want to do this anymore.”

Bissell had been teasing a follow up to The Wrens’ beloved 2003 album The Meadowlands for a long time, and in 2023 he released his first new music since that album, three singles as Car Colors. An album was expected to follow, but when we asked him what was next for the project in a 2024 interview, he suggested, “[maybe] just to step away from music finally on what’s hopefully a high note and move on to other things.”
Meanwhile, The Wrens’ Kevin Whelan took songs intended for the followup to Meadowlands and released them as the debut Aeon Station album in 2021.
