Chen, who relocated from his native Florida to Winnipeg following the release of 2023 EP Humor, has also shared a self-directed video for new track “Dreams I’ve Had”, offering an early glimpse into the record’s lyrical preoccupations.
“This song is about some dreams that I’ve had,” Chen says of the track. “It’s hard to say whether the events that play out while I sleep are relevant to some overarching narrative, whether my psychology is fully represented in the few memories I have once I wake up. I try to piece them together, giving meaning to odd details.”
Released via Sub Pop's sister-label Hardly Art, the debut LP marks a shift in process for 24-year-old Chen, who has historically written, produced and recorded alone in bedroom settings. For All My Time, he brought in outside collaborators, with six tracks co-produced and recorded with Keiran Placatka in Winnipeg, and four cut with Paul Larson in Los Angeles, incorporating a live-band sound influenced by early 2000s folk-rock.
