Triumph Roasts Marco Rubio, RFK Jr, Cheryl Hines at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

A man tried to assassinate the President of the United States at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The Daily Show, which had sent Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to work the red carpet earlier that evening, held the footage for a couple of days out of respect, then posted it anyway. And you know what? It’s pretty good! Shame about the normalization of political violence, but Triumph whips up some solid zingers at the expense of Marco Rubio and Cheryl Hines, while lobbing insults in the direction of RFK Jr., Pete Hegseth, Karoline Leavitt, and Kash Patel. It turned out to be a weirdly fitting tribute to a night that began as a free speech temperature check (the WHCA pointedly didn’t book a comedian this year, opting for a mentalist) and ended in conspiracy theories, a postponed dinner, and a wild breakdown of norms.

The video opens with some good jabs at the expense of television media, asking CNN anchors when the bosses were going to replace Wolf Blitzer with Jake Paul. Rubio is the best sport, calling the dog a “pain in the ass,” playfully smacking it on the snout, and laughing off the jokes.

Others don’t fare as well. Mehmet Oz seems to find the whole thing confusing and beats an awkward retreat. Karoline Leavitt tries to walk past Triumph, but as he shouts insults, she pauses and half-turns around, like someone who can’t look away from a car crash. And Cheryl Hines takes one jab about no longer being invited to Hollywood parties and just about crumbles, before locking the smile back in and wrapping up the interview.

While Triumph didn’t get face time with RFK Jr. or Hegseth, some of the best bits happened with them in the background as unwilling props in his scenes. (One shout, lobbed in RFK’s general direction: “Bobby, please Bobby! Can I see my brother one last time? He’s in your freezer!”) Video’s below.
