Donald Trump’s deteriorating relationship with Elon Musk hit a new low on Tuesday, as the president publicly suggested he’s open to the possibility of deporting his one-time close ally. “We’ll have to take a look. We might have to put DOGE on Elon. DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.” Trump answered when asked by reporters during a scrum. “Wouldn’t that be terrible? He gets a lot of subsidies.”
The president seemed especially annoyed with Musk for railing against the passage of his signature piece of legislation, the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill. With financial analysts forecasting that the bill could add trillions of dollars to the national debt, Musk has labeled it the “DEBT SLAVERY bill” and vowed to fund primary challengers against Republicans who voted in favor of its passage. For his part, Trump seems to think Musk is attempting to sabotage the bill over its exclusion of electric vehicle mandates.
