Graham Platner, a Democratic candidate for US Senator in Maine, jumped onstage and sang with Dropkick Murphys at the punk band’s tour kickoff at the State Theatre in Portland, before stage diving into the audience.

Platner crowd-surfed to the stage as Dropkick launched into “Bury the Bones’ from their latest album, For the People. Once he got to the stage, he joined frontman Ken Casey in singing the song, offering a passionate delivery of the chorus: “Hey, look on the bright side, you can’t get blood from a stone/ And we’re on the right side of the ground where they bury the bones.”

Then, after seemingly asking Casey for permission. Platner stage dove into the crowd to a large roar from the audience.

Platner, who is looking to unseat incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins, has described himself as a “New Deal Democrat,” and is a US Marine veteran who did three combat tours in Iraq.

Elsewhere in the show, Dropkick Murphys gave their anti-ICE song “Citizen I.C.E.” its US live debut. The band’s “St. Patricks Day Tour” continues through a five-night stand in Boston in mid-March, with tickets available here.
