Danish melodic death metal warriors Vanir have launched the opening salvo of their next campaign with "Never Surrender," the first single from their upcoming album Wyrd.
Inspired by the pivotal Battle of Vienna in 1683, "Never Surrender" tells a story of defiance and sacrifice from the perspective of those who stood against overwhelming odds. As the Winged Hussars and the Polish army charged into history and halted the expansion of the Ottoman Empire into Europe, Vanir transform one of the continent's defining moments into a powerful anthem of resilience and unbreakable will.
The album's visual core is brought to life by artist David Troest, whose dramatic cover artwork depicts the Winged Hussar, one of history's most fearsome war machines, set against the legendary Battle of Vienna. This historic clash forms the narrative backbone of "Never Surrender," told through the eyes of those who defended the city from invasion.
Mixed and mastered at Demigod Recordings, Wyrd delivers a powerful, razor-sharp sound that matches the weight and scope of its themes. Continuing their legacy of epic, history-themed melodic death metal, Vanir sharpen their steel once again and march boldly into the past to confront the present.
Wyrd will be released on LP, CD, and digital formats on April 3, 2026, via Mighty Music. Pre-orders are available here.
