Votive are an Austin band with current and former members of Portrayal of Guit, Respire, and Porcelain, and they’re set to follow their 2024 debut LP Towards the Pillory with a new album, An Infinite Capacity For Joy, on March 13 via Persistent Vision (North America) and Dog Knights. It was produced by Phillip Odom (who also works with Portrayal of Guilt), and the first taste is “Unitary Form,” an intense song that navigates the middle ground between screamo, black metal, and various other offshoots of metal and hardcore.

“‘Unitary Form’ is a song about working through trauma and self-doubt for such an extended period of time that when you become aware that you’re experiencing relief you’re not sure if you finally emerged from the hole or simply forgot to be upset,” the band tells us. “Furthermore, you’re now worried that even acknowledging progress could jeopardize everything you’ve been striving for and you’re stuck second guessing yourself and where you truly exist on the path of healing.”

About the album as a whole, they add, “This is an album about stumbling your way through personal growth. This is an album about never being sure of yourself and losing your way. This is an album about going to great lengths to find things you already have and solve problems that don’t exist.”
