Waxahatchee Covers “Choosin’ Texas,” Announces Pregnancy At Tour Kickoff

Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman kicked off their co-headlining acoustic tour Monday in Atlanta. It was an eventful night at Atlanta Symphony Hall, including a noteworthy cover and some exciting news from Katie Crutchfield. As one commenter on Reddit points out, Crutchfield introduced the night's final song like so: "This is a song about having a baby. This one’s going to hit a little different for me now." Congrats to the mother-to-be!

Crutchfield and Jake Lenderman reportedly appeared onstage together throughout the night, alternating songs and often collaborating. One of those collaborations was a cover of Ella Langley's crossover country hit "Choosin' Texas," currently the #1 song in America. Here's some up-close full-length footage:

It's such a huge Waxahatchee news day that her new This Is Lorelei cover, a cause for great excitement, is arguably the third most noteworthy item. This Friday, Nate Amos' solo project releases Box For Buddy, Box For Star (Super Deluxe), an album that finds many more artists covering his songs. It follows the previous deluxe edition of the album, which had covers from Lenderman, Snail Mail, and Bob and Sarah Amos. From the Super Deluxe, we've already heard Power Snatch's cover of "Perfect Hand." Now, Waxahatchee is sharing her studio rendition of "Where's Your Love Now," which she's been covering live since last year.

"I’m honored to be included in this re-record project as the album Box For Buddy, Box For Star has meant so much to me these last few years," Crutchfield says. "I think Nate is one of the best songwriters of this moment, making music that feels current and timeless and also somehow ahead of a curve. When I heard 'Where's Your Love Now' I thought it was one of the best songs I've ever heard. I am so happy to have covered it and happy to finally share it."

Waxahatchee makes the song her own by imbuing it with her soft, serene country twang. It features Amos and Spencer Tweedy on background vocals; Colin Croom on (beautiful) pedal steel, 12-sting acoustic, and keys; MJ Lenderman on drums and electric guitar; and Brad Cook on bass. Listen below.

Box For Buddy, Box For Star (Super Deluxe) is out 4/17 on Double Double Whammy.
