Waxahatchee features on upcoming Courtney Barnett album, Creature of Habit

The announcement follows the release of "Stay In Your Lane" back in October, Courtney Barnett's first new music since her 2023 instrumental album End Of The Day, and her third studio album Things Take Time, Take Time, released in 2021. "Site Unseen" featuring Waxahatchee, the project of singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield, arrives as the second glimpse into what is noted as a "decisive" new chapter for Barnett.

Speaking about the new track, Barnett explains: “I tried 3 separate times over 2 years to track this song, and each time it either wasn’t finished or didn’t sound right and each time we had to start again. I kept hearing this really high harmony in my head, so for the fourth and final version, I asked Katie if she’d be into singing it with me. I’m a big Waxahatchee fan. I really love Katie’s songwriting and her voice, so it was an honour to have her sing on Site Unseen.”

Creature of Habit was written following Barnett's move from Australia to Los Angeles, as well as the closure of her label Milk! Records, which ran from 2012 until 2023, due to financial strain worsened by the COVID-19 restrictions put into place in Australia.

Back in December, Barnett previewed a few of the new songs at three live listening events in London, Berlin, and Paris, revealing that it was her first time playing the selected tracks solo during her London performance. She is set to hit the road again for a North American tour kicking off in Austin, Texas on 1 May, with support from Momma, Truman Sinclair, Built to Spill, and Zoh Amba for selected shows.
