Former METZ guitarist/vocalist Alex Edkins has announced his second album as Weird Nightmare. It’s titled Hoopla and will be out May 1 via Dine Alone in Canada and Sub Pop in the rest of the world. The album was made with Spoon’s Jim Eno and recorded at Seth Manchester’s Machines with Magnets studio.

The album includes last year’s single “Forever Elsewhere,” and the new single is crunchy earworm “Might See You There” — one of a few songs on the record to feature backing vocals by Julianna Riolino.

“‘Might See You There’ is about going back to visit my hometown and being flooded with teenage nostalgia,” Alex says. “Small-town boredom and isolation almost feel like a gift in today’s highly connected world. I feel fortunate for that time spent idly, down in the basement, learning the entire Rancid Let’s Go album on guitar with my friends. I find it easy to romanticise that time in my life, even though I was, without question, a disgruntled kid who badly wanted to escape my surroundings and see the world.” Watch the animated video for “Might See You There” below.

Alex will be taking Weird Nightmare on tour this summer, and the NYC stop is at Union Pool on June 27. All dates are listed below.
