"I have been in perpetual motion for a long time, and as I get older, I find it harder to carve out the amount of time needed to finish things all at once. This was one of those songs that I had in the back of my mind and I had the chorus but no other lyrics. I wrote the lyrics in different places: London, America and Greece. They were always written in a fleeting way, and that became an animating principle of what kind of imagery is contained," Will Westerman says of the track.
"There are different ways of looking at that, right? You can look at that from the perspective of loss, or you can look at it from the perspective of opportunity, or you can look at it from the perspective of excitement or fear. I tried to play around with all of those things in an enveloping way. I was reading The Rime of the Ancient Mariner over and over and I had an image of this person on the sea, not understanding where they're going and not in control of anything, but unlike in the poem, finding that exciting and enjoying it for what it is."
Westerman also announces a run of headline shows in the UK, Europe and North America for Spring 2026 with dates in London, Dublin, Bristol, Paris and Brooklyn NY, Toronto, Chicago and more. Partisan Records in coordination with In Sheep’s Clothing HiFi will host a series of advanced, dedicated listenings for A Jackal’s Wedding in select cities. The album will be played in its entirety before it’s released for fans who RSVP and attend.
Written in Athens and recorded over five weeks on the Greek island of Hydra with producer Marta Salogni, A Jackal’s Wedding follows Westerman’s second album, An Inbuilt Fault (2023).
