WHIPPED CREAM Drops “Stranger” from Debut Album

1 week ago 12

A long and winding road through the music industry is bringing WHIPPED CREAM to her first longform work, HOME WAS ALWAYS ME.

The name WHIPPED CREAM has become ubiquitous in dance music circles over the past decade, and for good reason. With countless EPs and high-profile performances under her belt, the Canadian DJ and producer has finally announced that her long-awaited debut album, HOME WAS ALWAYS ME, will arrive by way of Monstercat on April 30.

Ahead of the release, WHIPPED CREAM (real name Caroline Cecil) has offered up its lead single, “stranger.” Defined by warm basses, effervescent vocal chops, and hard-hitting lyrics, the upbeat house number offers a glimpse of what’s to come when the effort arrives in full.

“Everyone knows the feeling: locking eyes with a stranger at a club, a festival, anywhere — and feeling something impossible to explain,” said Cecil of the single. “‘stranger’ is an anthem for that electricity. It works in the club, in the car, or in your headphones alone at night. It’s instant connection captured in three minutes.”

How does “stranger” fit into the context of the album as a whole? According to Cecil, her first longform work is about staying true to yourself. To that end, she’s drawn comparisons to the legendary Biblical figure Eve — but she’s reframed her as a fighter for authenticity who’s misunderstood by the rest of the world.

“People say ‘be yourself,’ but the moment you do, they project onto you. This album is about choosing yourself anyway,” Cecil said.

No tracklist is available for HOME WAS ALWAYS ME at the time of writing. WHIPPED CREAM will likely release more songs off the upcoming effort in the coming weeks.

Listen to “stranger” on Spotify or your preferred platform, and look out for HOME WAS ALWAYS ME to release in full on April 30.
