White Flowers announce Al Doyle-produced album, Dreams For Somebody Else

Formed by Katie Drewand and Joey Cobb, White Flowers made their debut with their first full-length album, Day By Day, released in 2021.

Dreams For Somebody Else is set to arrive as a collection of songs that expands on their dream-pop roots with elements of dance music, embracing pop sensibilities to create what they describe as "sad euphoria". "Thinking Of You" arrives as the newest preview of the upcoming record, following "Tear", released back in October.

Speaking on the origins of the single, the pair explain: “Whilst recording the songs for ‘Dreams For Somebody Else’, we really connected with the concept of Annie Ernaux’s book, ‘The Years’ - a ‘collective autobiography’ pieced together from mismatched fragments from her past, conjuring the effect that she’s merely an observer of her own life. This concept merges into the White Flowers world, where time, rather than being restrictive, is fluid and boundless, with our music existing as an endless conversation with versions of ourselves at different stages of our lives. ‘Thinking Of You’ embodies this theme, and the sense of hopeful optimism and eternal loss that comes with it.”

On Dreams For Somebody Else, White Flowers refer to an archival practice that they've developed over the last ten years to inform their songwriting, with the ten songs on the new record being composed of musical and artistic snippets and ideas they've stored. Working with LCD Soundsystem member Al Doyle as co-producer, they were able to arrive at a fully-formed collection of songs based on those fragments.
