Despite generally positive reviews from fans and critics alike, The Boys spin-off Gen V has been cancelled after two seasons.

Created by Evan Goldberg, Craig Rosenberg and Eric Kripke, the satirical superhero series follows a group of young adult superheroes at Goldolkin University, who are all competing for a chance to join The Seven at Vought International.

Jaz Sinclair led the show’s cast as Marie Moreau, alongside Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Shelley Conn and Hamish Linklater.

Both seasons of Gen V are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon has not clarified why Gen V has been axed after two seasons. However, co-creator Eric Kripke previously told The Wrap there was a plan to continue the show, but it would depend on the viewing figures for season two.

“We have a plan for Gen V season three, and we’re psyched about it, but we need enough viewers to watch season two to justify season three,” Kripke said at the time.

It seems these plans have now shifted, with the creators of the show promising the stories of the Gen V characters will continue in The Boys season five and other spin-offs.

In a statement after the show’s cancellation, Kripke and fellow co-creator Evan Goldberg said: “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys season five and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again.”

The next confirmed spin-off is Vought Rising, centred around Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash). The prequel series is set to premiere in 2027. Beyond that, The Boys: Mexico produced by Gael Garcia Bernal is in early development.

What have the cast said about the show’s cancellation?

In a post on her Instagram Story, Jaz Sinclair teased there’ll be more news to come in the future.

“There’s so much I wanna (and will) say, but for today I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart,” she said (via Deadline). “I’m so happy you’re here and I’m so grateful for this incredible experience.”
