The New York Yankees’ are giving Seinfeld fans a reason to get out of bed with a newly-announced bobblehead that finds George Costanza nodding off under his desk. While the first 18,000 fans to attend August 21st’s Seinfeld Night game will receive the bobbleheads for free, the not-quite-action figures are pre-reselling for $250 on eBay — five times the cost of the cheapest tickets ($53) available for the tussle against the Red Sox.
The character Costanza worked for the Yankees from the Season 5 finale “The Opposite” through Season 8’s “The Summer of George,”a run that included “The Nap,” in which George explores some new horizontal habits. In the decades since, the Yankees have embraced Seinfeld with many Seinfeld Nights, and last year ran a popular bobblehead that showed Costanza hoisting a bat, in honor of a scene of giving unsolicited advice to Bernie Williams and Derek Jeter.
The Show About Nothing continues to mean something years later. For more check out a recent John Mulaney sketch starring Phish and the Consequence Crossword “Seinfeld Characters.”
