Though Yeasayer are no more, the band’s two lead vocalists are now both leading solo careers and when you compare Chris Keating’s solo stuff to Anand Wilder’s, you can really get a feel for how their individual styles came together to create the unique Yeasayer sound. Anand strongly embraced the folky side of Yeasayer on his 2022 debut solo album I Don’t Know My Words, and he now dives back into the band’s bouncy, bubbly psych-pop side on his sophomore solo album Psychic Lessons. It’s a very cool record and you can stream it in full below.
Anand is also a big record collector, a DJ, and a sucker for pop music, so it’s fitting that he’s chosen to tell us about five albums he loves by his five favorite ’80s divas, all of which he shows off (via video) from his own record collection, and at least one of which is marked up with notes for his DJ sets. His list includes some of the biggest powerhouses in pop history, and he finds time to get some new wave and art pop in there too. Check out the video below.
Also coming up for Anand Wilder: a performance & signing at Rough Trade Below on September 4.
