Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil Trailer Teases All-New Zombie Nightmare: Watch

6 hours ago 4

The latest adaptation of the beloved survival horror video game series Resident Evil comes from Weapons and Barbarian mastermind Zach Cregger, who has revealed the first trailer for the film. Watch the clip below.

The new teaser offers a glimpse into an “all-new story” that draws inspiration from the games without adapting any specific plotlines, while remaining entirely separate from previous film and TV iterations. The movie revolves around a new character named Bryan (played by Weapons star Austin Abrams), who is described as “a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cregger noted earlier this month at CinemaCon that he has played a “shit ton” of the video games in the series, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. “If you love the games, you will feel their influence everywhere in the movie,” he added.

Cregger directed Resident Evil from a script he co-wrote with Shay Hatten, known for his work on Netflix’s Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon films, as well as the John Wick franchise. Abrams is joined by Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser.

Resident Evil shambles into theaters on September 18th.

The latest video game entry in the franchise, Resident Evil Requiem, was released this past February, selling five million copies in just five days.
