Kacey Musgraves didn’t just trot out a boring Coachella set opener — in fact, she trotted out on a horse, the first of what turned out to be a set full of surprises.
After dismounting, Musgraves opened the pre-announced “surprise” performance with the live-debut of brand-new single “Middle of Nowhere.” She also seemed to tease Justin Bieber and his YouTube video-filled Weekend One concert, opening up the computer only for an alien to appear, followed by a segment from her beloved 2019 Coachella appearance (“When I say ‘Yee,’ you say ‘Ha,’ — I DIDN’T SAY FUCKING ‘YEE!'”). She even covered a pair of country classics, adding new lyrics to George Strait’s “All My Exes Live in Texas” and crooning through the Brooks & Dunn banger, “Neon Moon.”

But her own fans were likely more excited about the new music premiers; Musgraves performed the never-before-heard tunes “Back on the Wagon” and “Uncertain, TX,” from her upcoming album Middle of Nowhere. Y’all, I think this record might be pretty good. Check out some of the highlights from her Weekend Two Coachella set below.
