ANYX details upcoming debut solo album, Starlink

Starlink follows three years of Nissen leading Berlin-based experimental trio Anchoress, with "Ladybirds Spine" being the first preview of the collection of songs.

Speaking about the new single, Nissen says: "I wrote this song from a place where everything felt too big, too loud, too much — the pressure of visibility, of documenting your life online just to prove it's real. I felt like I couldn't keep up. Like sitting on a ladybird's spine, seeing the world from that tiny, overwhelmed perspective. But underneath that smallness is something stubborn - the feeling that I can still act, still choose, still move through the noise on my own terms. I won't rise - to your standards, but my own. I won't dance - at your parties, but my own."

Starlink was co-written with collaborators Alexander Rathbone and Tobias Textor, and is described as a return to Nissen's roots as a visual artist, as the songs see her take a "sculptural" approach with her use of vocals and minimal harp, keys, guitar, and double bass. Across the album, she explores the tension that comes from the way that man-made machinery has gone on to disrupt the natural world, fuelled by Nissen's experience of stargazing before realising she was looking at satellites.

ANYX is currently scheduled to perform in Berlin alongside Kristof Hahn and Andy Aquarius in September, following the release of the album, with more live dates to be announced.
