Ashley McBryde – “Lines In The Carpet”

2 hours ago 4

Indie rock bands aren't the only acts who release a whole flood of advance singles before dropping their albums. Right now, Ashley McBryde, one of the greatest artists currently working in the Nashville country system, is using the same rollout strategy. McBryde has a new album called Wild coming out next month. I've heard it, and it's really, really good. You might've heard a lot of it, too, since McBryde has already shared a whole mess of advance singles including "What If We Don't" and "Bottle Tells Me So," as well as a few that we didn't post. Today, you can hear a little more of Wild.

McBryde's new song "Lines In The Carpet" a midtempo Southern rocker with riffs that really gleam. The instrumentation veers closer to pop-punk than McBryde usually gets. Over that riffage, McBryde wails out a portrait of an unhappy suburban housewife: "She’s a mess, but the house is clean as the cover of Better Homes And Gardens/ And he can’t read between the lines in the carpet."

That's good writing! The Americana great Lori McKenna co-wrote "Lines In The Carpet with Nashville insiders Lauren Hungate and Caroline Watkins. In classic Nashville country fashion, the song's video shows its lyrics as literally as possible. Check it out below.

Wild is out 5/8 via Warner Records Nashville.
