Baxter Dury enlists 'superproducer' Paul Epworth for Allbarone remix EP

2 hours ago 1

The EP arrives following the release of Allbarone last autumn, but Epworth – known for his work with Adele and U2 – approached the material with a view to reworking it for dancefloor settings. The result is a series of electro-disco extensions that rebuild the original tracks into 12" remix-style workouts. According to the announcement, each mix takes a groove and runs it through the centre of the source material, adding dub echoes, flickering percussion, addictive basslines, and languid disco rhythms.

The EP includes five tracks: “Kubla Khan”, “Allbarone”, “Alpha Dog”, “Schadenfreude” and “Return Of The Sharp Heads”, all receiving the Epworth treatment. The producer’s versions lean into the small-hours atmosphere.

Dury has remained active on the live front throughout the summer, with a string of European festival dates and UK appearances. He is scheduled to play Wilderness Festival on 31 July and Green Man on a date not specified in the release, though the dates given include 14 August at Route Du Rock in St Malo and 29 August at Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus in Sheffield. He will also support Super Furry Animals at York Museum Gardens on 11 July and at Collins Barracks in Dublin on 30 August, alongside a slot supporting Johnny Marr at Wembley Arena on 3 October.

The Allbarone Versions EP is set for digital release on 24 July via Heavenly Recordings, with “Alpha Dog (Paul Epworth Extended Version)” available to stream now.
