Björk teases big announcement for 12 August

After sharing the Conrad Taylor remix of Rosalía's "Berghain" – which she guested on and was used for the duo's recent BRITs performance – under the title "rave announcement 1", Björk then flagged up 12 August as "rave announcement 2", writing "coming soooooooon.......... (save the date 12th of August 2026, come dance??)".

"'Rave announcement 2' Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s not an album announcement," one fan wrote on Reddit.

While new material is likely this year, it's also quite certain Björk's post indicates a live event of some sort. Björk has been holding monthly "Full Moon" DJ sets at Smekkleysa – the label and store co-founded by The Sugarcubes – over the last three years. A total solar eclipse is set to occur at the Moon's descending node of orbit on Wednesday, 12 August this year, passing over the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland, the Atlantic Ocean, northern Spain, the extreme northeastern part of Portugal – and Björk's home of Iceland.

"Is Björk throwing a solar eclipse party? Solar eclipse/moon album?! 👀 Zero chance it’s a coincidence," another fan wrote on Reddit. The timing matches a four-day festival to celebrate the eclipse, planned in Iceland from 12-16 August. Iceland Eclipse boasts Imogen Heap, Booka Shade, Daði Freyr, Hjaltalín, Emiliana Torrini, Gusgus and Ásgeir among the announced line-up. Can we expect a Björk DJ set added to the line-up? It seems likely....

Björk has already confirmed a new album for this year. Her first since 2022's Fossora, new music from the record will debut as part of Echolalia, a major immersive exhibition at the National Gallery of Iceland, created in collaboration with artist James Merry. Across three immersive installations, Echolalia will focus on Björk as the creative force behind multimedia projects she's developed in collaboration with communities of musicians, artists, designers, dancers, filmmakers, and studio technicians. The exhibition's opening date of 31 May means we can expect at least one new song from Björk before (or on) the last day of Spring.
