Brother Wallace reveals details of his debut album, Electric Love

2 weeks ago 9

“Electric Love” first received early airplay on The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show on BBC Radio 6 Music, offering audiences a first look into the upcoming record, with the track’s piano-driven soul arrangements and Brother Wallace’s lead vocals pulling from classic Stax-and-satin and Motown palettes.

Discussing the song, which follows his debut single “Who’s That?” released on ATO last November, Wallace explains: “It’s about choosing connection. Finding that current again— the thing that reminds you you’re alive.”

Electric Love arrives after years of immersion in piano and choir for Wallace, who began piano lessons at age six, and found himself directing a one-hundred-member choir by age fourteen. He went on to work as a music teacher, a role which he maintained while developing his own material, leading him to share a stage with gospel legend Kirk Franklin at Madison Square Garden before deciding to launch his solo career.

The album was produced and co-written with guitarist Dan Taylor of The Heavy and recorded at Real World Studios, with Bob Mackenzie (James Blake, The 1975, King Krule, SAULT) and Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys) on mixing and engineering.

It sees Wallace pour his gospel and soul sensibilities to a collection of thirteen songs, which he is set to bring to the UK for the very first time in May, with appearances at The Great Escape in Brighton and Cross The Tracks in London, in addition to shows in Manchester and Bristol.
