ARIRANG is upon us! Now that BTS’ first studio album in six years has finally arrived, our resident fangirls Kayla and Bethany are prepared to do what they do best – dive in and analyze it track by track!
The BTS boys were considerate enough to release their new album during Kayla’s spring break, allowing the perfect opportunity for some travel to reunite our hosts in-person and experience the album together. From staying up for the midnight release of the “Swim” music video to an early morning dash to Target for ARMY Bombs, Kayla and Bethany fully immersed themselves in the hype and commune with other eager ARMY along the way.
This episode covers the first half of the album, from “Body to Body” through “Swim,” and it’s clear that each member brings in influences from their solo projects, converging in a truly genre-spanning experience. Kayla and Bethany pride themselves on their deep analysis of BTS songs, and this episode gives them plenty to dig into. Whether it’s “Aliens” celebrating their transcendence of cultural boundaries or the poignant message of perseverance in “Swim,” each song offers reflections of Korean culture and a deeper understanding of the music and music-makers we love and celebrate.
And speaking of music-makers, this episode also features plenty of discussion on the notable producers and songwriters collaborating with BTS on this album. Diplo, Ryan Tedder, Teezo Touchdown, and Kevin Parker are just a few of the names across the hip-hop and alternative spectrum that contribute to diversifying the sound of the band and enriching their latest musical venture.
Join Kayla and Bethany as they embark on this highly anticipated journey, exploring the musical intricacies of BTS’ compositions infused with their own personal insights and moments of pure fangirl ecstasy.
