Michael Mann’s Heat 2 has been a project in the works for a long time, but we now at least have confirmation of one star: In a local Chicago news interview timed to promote his upcoming new film The Bride, Christian Bale revealed that he’ll “be back in Chicago soon” to shoot the pending sequel/prequel.
Bale’s role in the project is unconfirmed, though what’s known at this time is that the Heat 2 story is said to take place in two different time periods: The 1980s and the early 2000s. (The original film was contemporary to its 1995 release.)
Other actors rumored to be involved with Heat 2 include Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Driver, Austin Butler, and Stephen Graham. If Bale is playing some permutation of Al Pacino’s iconic Detective Vincent Hanna, one can only hope he’s already started on the necessary vocal exercises.
