Alongside the news of their signing and debut EP, Dorothy presents their debut single, "50s song". “The shack is a roaring glow, filled with all kinds of folk,” the trio says of “50s song” and the larger narrative from which it draws, continuing: “Stranded mariners from the far edges of the ocean. The beer flows from the taps like gold, and like a moth you flock to it again and again throughout the night. You sing at the moon of your heart’s desire.”
Each artist in Dorothy — GG Skips, Saint Jude, and heka — comes with their own venerable solo history, but together on Sea Songs they craft a singular statement. Anchored by the trust between longtime collaborators, Dorothy debuts with the familiarity of friends who have shared scenes, stages, and memories for years on end.
“I’d been writing with Marco and Jude independently throughout the years,” Brierley says of the trio’s nascent days. “Marco and I realized that a lot of the songs we’d written together somehow referred back to the shared theme of the sea, so we thought it would be cool to release a collaborative EP,” she continues. Originally enlisting Woodhead for additional recording and mixing, the duo quickly tapped Woodhead to join the songwriting fold. “Jude and I showed Marco a song we’d written, and it suddenly made sense to include it [on Sea Songs] as the final piece of the puzzle.”
