Dylan John Thomas announces second album Nothing Here Worth Taking

The ten-track record was recorded at Magic Box Studios with Scotty Anderson, who has previously worked with The Snuts. Thomas wrote all the material and performs the majority of the instrumentation. The album incorporates brass, blues, banjo, piano and what the announcement describes as "retro-futureproof" songwriting, marking a departure from the live-recorded approach of his 2024 self-titled debut.

That first record was largely shaped on the road before entering the studio, with the band having played the songs live extensively. Nothing Here Worth Taking follows a different process. "I let the album grow naturally," Thomas explains. "The pressure to try to do a full album in a month or so, I wasn't really into that. I didn't want too much of a time constraint on it. I just let the tunes come to me and recorded it as I went along."

Recent single "Got You on My Mind", which features banjo prominently, previews the album's expanded sonic palette. Thomas picked up the instrument two years ago. "We went on a wee trip round Scotland, and I took it with us," he says. "We were just kicking around, playing all the old folk songs. And by the time it came to recording this album, I'd written a couple of songs on it."

New single "Heaven Knows You're Lonely" strips the sound back to acoustic guitar and vocal, offering a more restrained counterpoint to the fuller arrangements elsewhere on the record.

Thomas has built a substantial live following since emerging from Glasgow's grassroots scene, with mentorship from Gerry Cinnamon and support slots for Sam Fender and Liam Gallagher. He has sold over 60,000 tickets to date, including six sold-out nights at Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom and a homecoming show at the city's 14,500-capacity OVO Hydro Arena.

The announcement follows a performance at TRNSMT Festival, where he played to a 50,000-capacity crowd in Glasgow. Further festival dates include Kendal Calling on 2 August, Leeds Festival on 28 August and Victorious Festival on 29 August.

The UK and Ireland headline tour begins at Manchester's Albert Hall on 26 November, with dates in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Newcastle, Liverpool, Cardiff and London's Islington Assembly Hall on 8 December. Thomas returns to Glasgow's OVO Hydro Arena on 11 December, closing the run at Aberdeen's P&J Live on 12 December. Tickets go on general sale on 26 June.
