Darkwave duo Boy Harsher (Augustus Muller and Jae Matthews) wrote, directed, shot and edited a 40-minute horror short, The Runner, during the pandemic and they’ve now wrapped their first feature. Deadline reports its an erotic thriller titled The Lonely Woman and it stars FKA twigs, Sturgill Simpson, Will Oldham (Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy), Chloë Sevigny, and Jake Weary.

Boy Harsher describe the film as a “bleak, sensual and atmospheric horror-thriller” and here’s the synopsis according to Deadline: “Set in rural New England, The Lonely Woman follows a woman marked by her first love’s death in a mountain tunnel. Drawn into the mystery of a new disappearance, she finds herself confronting a seductive and terrifying presence buried beneath the town.”

As with The Runner, Boy Harsher also composed the score in addition to writing and directing the film, with cinematography by Hunter Zimny (Giants Being LonelyThe Scary of Sixty-First) and production design by Madeline Sadowski (Good Time, Chappel Roan’s “The Subway”).

The Lonely Woman was shot in Upstate New York and they hope to premiere it in 2026. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, you can watch The Runner, which features a character named The Lonely Woman (Sigrid Lauren), on Shudder.

Augustus Muller will play Brooklyn on New Year’s Eve at Paragon with Trax Unit and Falseboi, and Boy Harsher will play the Texas edition of Sick New World fest next October.
