Nashville emo torch-bearers Free Throw have announced their sixth album, Moments Before the Wind, due March 27 via Wax Bodega. It’s available for pre-order now, and we’ve got an exclusive coke bottle clear vinyl variant in the BV shop, limited to 200.
“The record has this theme of liminality – not just as a place, but in your mind,” says vocalist/guitarist Cory Castro. “It’s like being stuck in a doorframe or a long hallway that never ends.”
“There was a lot to write about this time around, but getting over that threshold definitely took some time,” he continues. “We tend to write albums that have a conceptual arc to them, but you just sort of have to let the songs reveal themselves and figure out what that actually is. When I got the call that I was going to be a dad, I immediately knew what song I was going to write [closing track ‘The Waters of Life’]. It just felt right.”
The album was produced by longtime collaborator Brett Romnes (of I Am The Avalanche and The Movielife), and two songs are out now. “Mike Nolan’s Long Weekend” (ft. Dom Fox of Bad Luck) came out last year, and today Free Throw shared second single “Hero’s Grave.” It finds the band in explosive, cathartic, emo/pop punk crossover mode and it comes with a video that you can check out below.
Free Throw also announced a tour with the stacked lineup of Macseal, TRSH, and Wakelee. That includes a NYC show on May 8 at Webster Hall. Tickets go on sale Friday (1/23) at 10 AM local with presales beforehand. All dates are listed below.
