Green Day delivered a spoof speech while at the iHeartRadio Awards 2025. Check out footage of the moment below.
The moment took place earlier this week at the ceremony for the iHeartRadio Awards 2025, which was held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and saw the pop-punk trio win the award for Alternative Artist Of The Year.
After beating off competition from Cage The Elephant, Linkin Park, Sum 41 and Twenty One Pilots, the members – comprising Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt – took to the stage and used their speech to make a nod to the 1997 film Boogie Nights.
Holding the award, Armstrong paraphrased the whole speech from the film while his bandmates started to laugh behind him.
“Wow. I don’t know what to say,” he began, quoting the scene where Mark Wahlberg’s character also takes to the podium to accept a trophy at an adult award show. “I guess the only thing I can say is, I’ll keep rocking and rolling to keep making music and better songs.”
“You know it seems we make these records and sometimes they’re considered filthy by some people. But I don’t think that’s true,” he continued. “This music we make can make people feel better. They can help, they really can, and I really believe that. So we can always do better, so I’m going to keep trying if you guys keep trying. Let’s keep rocking and rolling.”
In case anyone missed the nod to the Paul Thomas Anderson film, Green Day also shared a post on Instagram after the ceremony. This saw the two clips placed back-to-back for fans.

Other winners on the night included Billie Eilish, who took home the award for Album Of The Year for ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ – beating off competition from Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ after losing out to the country record at the Grammys.
Elsewhere, Mariah Carey took home the Icon Award, Nelly took home the Landmark Award and Gracie Abrams nabbed the Breakthrough Award. For the latter, she used her acceptance speech to share her love of Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Noah Kahan and The National. Find a full list of winners here.
In other Green Day news, the trio are scheduled to return to the UK this summer to headline Download 2025 alongside Sleep Token and KoRn. It comes after they released their 14th and latest studio album, ‘Saviors’, in early 2024.
Last month, they put out a casting call for a new film inspired by their early days together. The comedy movie will be titled New Years Rev, with production currently under way in Oklahoma. It will tell the story of three friends travelling across the US as they mistakenly believe they will be opening for Green Day at a New Year’s show in Los Angeles.
The band also joined forces with Billie Eilish at the FireAid benefit concert in Los Angeles in January, where they played the 2009 song ‘Last Night On Earth’.
