Guns N' Roses has been working on the follow-up to their 2008 album Chinese Democracy for a few years now and uh… they're still working on it. In a new interview with Guitar World, Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash said there's a ton of material sitting around and the band just has to sort through it all. So basically prepare yourselves for Chinese Democracy II: This Time It's Got Some Classic Members.
"There's so much material at this point — it's a matter of having the discipline to sit down and fucking get into it. But the thing with Guns is, in my experience, you can never plan ahead. You can never sit down and go, 'We're going to take this time , and we're going to do this.'
"Every time we've done that, it falls apart. It just spontaneously happens through some sort of inspiration that triggers it. And the next thing you know, It's off and running. So it's coming. I know it's coming because everybody is thinking about it. It'll just happen when it happens."
And sure, this is probably frustrating for die hard fans. But Guns N' Roses can also ride out the rest of their career just playing stuff from Appetite For Destruction and doling out the occasional reissue.
The wait for new Guns N' Roses has been long, though the band has made it known they'd like to do a brand new record. Guns N' Roses released two Chinese Democracy outtakes – "Absurd" and "Hard Skool" – in 2021, with the proise that more are coming. The band was also spotted rehearsing what sounded like a new song at soundcheck in 2022, though that song has yet to surface.
