IGORRR Stays Weird & Loud As Hell On New Single "Headbutt"

French multi-instrumentalist and producer Gautier Serre, better known under his moniker Igorrr (our Artist Of The Month), has spent the last two decades blurring and demolishing genre boundaries. Each new release has carved fresh ground, and with his upcoming fifth album Amen, Igorrr once again proves himself unclassifiable — radical, unpredictable, and utterly vital.

Set for release September 19 via Metal Blade Records, Amen features high-profile guest appearances from Scott Ian (Anthrax), Trey Spruance (Mr. Bungle), and Mike Leon (Soulfly). Today, Igorrr unveils the video for the album’s latest single, "Headbutt" – a piece that takes the long-running dialogue between classical music and extreme metal to a whole new level.

"Is the biggest fortissimo ever made on a piano bigger than heavy and massive metal riffs?" Igorrr asks.

"The match between classical music and metal was very close, but the piano won with that final excavator uppercut. Starting with an ostinato that gives the pulse of the track and shows that the piano can also be a rhythmic instrument, we witness smart blows between both parties, going crescendo until the actual headbutt on the piano, which wasn't even the strongest or last move from classical music."
