James Van Der Beek’s widow, Kimberly Van Der Beek, has launched a GoFundMe following the actor’s death from colorectal cancer on Wednesday, February 11th.

“Throughout his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial strain as they did everything possible to support James and provide for his care,” reads the fundraiser page. “In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children are facing an uncertain future. The costs of James’s medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds. They are working hard to stay in their home and to ensure the children can continue their education and maintain some stability during this incredibly difficult time.”

The GoFundMe notes that donations will help cover essential living expenses, bills, and the education of Van Der Beek’s children. The couple, who married in 2010, shared six children: Olivia, 15, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 12, Emilia, 9, Gwendolyn, 7, and Jeremiah, 4.

At the time of publishing, the fundraiser has received nearly $250,000 toward its $350,000 goal.

Van Der Beek, best known for his roles in Dawson’s Creek and Varsity Blues, was pronounced dead at the age of 48 on Wednesday morning after battling colorectal cancer. Although he received the diagnosis in August 2023, he kept it private until November 2024.
